Most of a good concrete or paver job happens before the pour. We excavate to proper depth, compact the base in lifts and set the grade so water runs away from the house, then place and finish to specification, which is why the work holds its grade instead of heaving and dipping.
From a foundation pour to a terraced entry with sitting walls and planters, the work is laid out to the eye, built to the level and cured properly, so the surface you approved is the surface you keep.
